Skandar Anubuthi is a series of 51 hymns written in Tamil (South Indian language) by Saint Arunagiri.
These hymns are a description of realization forms true to the extreme bliss of enlightenment, the hymn’s purpose is to ‘feel’ the source of energy or bliss pass through.
“Anubuthi” is a process where it is subtly yet clearly mentioned how to access this cosmic force of knowledge and enjoy the bliss beyond the barriers of time and mortal frame.
The series I am intending to write as notes is to dissect these in a metaphysical manner to help understand a different perspective to the Anubuthi.
I started off with verse 51 as the climax gives a glimpse of what he intends us to learn. Now coming from the beginning start off with verse 1!
The first hymn is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, who is believed to be the energy of sound and vibrations.
It is as below:
The hymn as is in Tamil.
nenja— kanakallu nekilnTh— uruka,
thanjath— aruL shaNmukhanuk— iyal sEr
senjot punai maalai chiRanThidavE,
panjakkara aanai paTham paNivam.
Literal Meaning – from Skandagurunatha.org site
Even the hardened stony heart melts and liquefies
By the grace, to one that takes refuge, Shanmukha bestows;
That this sweet word-garland to Him be glorious
To the five-armed Lord’s Feet bow let us.
“Let us bow to the Lotus-Feet of the Five-armed Lord (Sri Vighneshvara) for the renown of this garland (Kanthar Anubhuthi), knit of beautiful Tamil language, to Lord Shanmukha, Who, on the one that takes refuge in Him, showers His Grace that liquefies and melts even a hardened stony heart.”
Delving deeper:
If you think science and logic does not make sense with these versions alone, read further, however as with many such documents – there is more logic with science as a theory than with grounded proof.
Dedicating the deciphering to the Lord Almighty who is everywhere, I begin!
Prologue to the hymn:
We, humans, like any other living being form a part of the cosmic universe and a micro granular part of its delicate balance. As with every living being we have been given our tools to communicate with the parent property.
First, in many religions in the Indian practice, why does every one pray Ganesha before starting anything, be it driving a car or starting a work or be it starting a prayer.
The concept is not just myth or symbolic, it is philosophical and has a true embedded sense. To understand one of the aspects of this, we need to understand what prayer does. Prayer is a way the mind connects to the universal energy or cosmic force to find a balance to its need.
While nature is all about balance, to find our place in the balance (if there is a requirement to do so), a prayer is necessary. It can be as simple as ‘Oh God’ or ‘Help me Lord’ or as complex as soundarya lahiri. Prayers can communicate an SOS sort of signal or receive a cosmic vibration as a reception to the human body and mind.
Ok so I am saying this sloka or mantra – for example, Anubuthi so many ever times and why is nothing happening?
Truth is the odds of that sort of involuntary chanting can get us no where or possibly 1 step as in curiosity in some place of our progress. Infact, I personally think its more dangerous to do that, based on the planetary constellations and their effects, this sort of work would deteriorate the belief syste. (Planetary vibrations are beyond the scope of this discussion).
Keeping it a bit short now, the way to get the best benefits out of the mother ship (everything that is in the universe works under physics / chemistry / math – like e=mc2/f=ma etc – simply said they already exist).
But how to is the big question and as said before, the tool which is inbuilt in us – the mind, is the only way to connect. Science is yet to come up with an accurate answer to figure out the mind, you may however find answers in myths / legends / harry potter (occlumency) so on and so forth. So this is an ambiguous yet only answer.
Now its left to the reader to use help of the internet demi-god to find more about the speed of mind and premonitions etc. Those can give a bigger insight to the actual statements “Knowledge is Power” and “The universe is inside you” (as in quantum physics).
I stop here with the prologue and say that the way a prayer works is to channel the elements that clog the power of mind to make sort of a concentrated force of beam to the mother ship (universal energy), this is precisely what our Lord Ganesha does, as you will find out from below. Depending on the power and force of transmission, time and delivery happen, but the answer is never a no!
Getting into details of the first hymn!
nenja— kanakallu nekilnTh— uruka, (Tamil verse)
The heart (Nenju) as in the drive of feel from the mind, this is the primary element that must merge to the ocean of cosmic bliss. It is heavy, clouded (Kana Kallu) and does not melt that easily. The first basic step is to ensure the heart and mind are in sync with the singular thought of invoking the energy force, for that it must melt (Negiznthu uruga) and see the grace of the universe and its magnitude.
thanjath— aruL shaNmukhanuk— iyal sEr (Tamil Verse)
To surrender (thanjath) one’s self to the lord of 6 faces ( Shanmuka – The force in five directions and the sixth present as we see inside, this is witnessed when the heart melts, we see us as a constituent of the universe and surrounded / merged by it and we give in (Iyal ser) to the Lord.
senjot punai maalai chiRanThidavE, (Tamil Verse)
Words of wisdom are now (Once heart melts) in Truthful forms as a garland of words (Senchor Punai malai), we go about to praise the glory of the Lord (Siranthidave)
panjakkara aanai paTham paNivam. (Tamil Verse)
He who controls the five elements (Panja kara – each limb – Kara – symbolizing each element) Aanai(Ganesha), we beg and bow to the master of senses to set forth a focus that can send a clear sight / signal of the prayer.
The four known elements and the 5th – be it Akasha or dark matter or c2, forms the human body, as it is made, helps plant energy vibrations from existing and surrounded cosmic resources into it. As they are here, they control the mind and attract more disturbances, not enabling the amount of focus / concentration needed.
Ganesha, with an elephant head, holding a pasam and ankusam, representing the human mind as that of an brutal elephant force and the tools that the mahot uses to focus the elephant head to be focused and concentrated. We bow at the feet of the Lord of 5 elements (Patham panivom) to grant us that chanel of mind.
This channel of mind is critical for any prayer to be successful, there in stands the essence of this verse as with any other.
In this case, to invoke the path and experience of the ultimate bliss and witness the power of universe, a request is made to gift the mastery of words.
